Evacuations were ordered early in the day by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office yesterday as the fire swept through grasslands west of Littleton, though the evacuations were rescinded by 4:45 p.m. as West Metro Fire Rescue worked to contain the blaze with assistance from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control.

The flames burned 150 acres of grassland, but firefighters prevented the flames from jumping across Colo. 470 and the highway was reopened at 6:30 p.m. last night. No structures were damaged by the fire.

According to West Metro Fire Rescue, teams continued to douse the flames throughout the night and the grass fire has slowed as teams put out hotspots. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no further evacuations are expected, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
