The Longmont City Council will welcome its newly elected member, Sean McCoy, on Tuesday night.
Over the last year, the Longmont City Council has operated with six members instead of its usual seven. Joan Peck abdicated her seat as an At-Large representative on council when she won the seat of mayor in the 2021 election.
The cost of a special election — which was estimated at $400,000 — was more than the city could afford. The decision was made to wait until the Nov. 2022 election to fill the empty seat.
McCoy faced Gary Hodges and Mitzi Nicoletti. The final votes were close with McCoy receiving 13,081 and Nicoletti receiving 12,150.
McCoy will assume office on Tuesday night during the city council meeting.
