In brief:
We warm to seasonable temperatures with dry conditions looking 10 days out.
Forecast discussion:
A dry trough is zipping past the state on Saturday (Halloween) with northwest flow aloft over the state (Figure 1 below).
Local fires are still smouldering at a very low level, but upstream fires in other states will send a bit of haze our way (Figure 2).
We will be cooler than normal for the weekend and dry. A cold front arriving early Saturday morning will kick up winds. Winds in the mountains will blow stronger than firefighters would like Saturday (Figure 3).
The longer-range forecast:
As the week wears on, a semi-strong ridge will return to the West and central U.S., warming us back to a bit above normal (Figure 4 and 3).
Sadly, we remain very dry for the next 10 days. The GFS gives the mountains a light sprinkle about a week from now (Figure 5). Snowfall remains very light in the northern mountains as well (Figure 6).
The Halloween forecast:
At 6 p.m.: The temperature will be 46 degrees with winds from the northeast at 6 to 10mph and clear skies.
At 9 p.m.: The temperature will be 37 degrees with light winds from the east at 3 mph under clear skies and a full moon.
I saw on another site that we've not had a full moon (and Blue Moon — second full moon in a month) on Halloween night since 1944. Strange. Sounds like 2020.
Election Day forecast:
Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a high near 70 degrees and low near 38. There will be no precipitation and light west winds. You won't notice the weather in Colorado on Election Day.
