Holiday Events and Festivities
The Gift of Home Tour, taking place from Dec. 5-7, is a must-attend holiday event that benefits Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley.
This self-guided tour features beautifully decorated homes across Longmont, giving you a peek inside stunning residences while supporting a great cause. Tickets are available online at thegiftofhome.org.
For a fun family activity, join the Longmont Museum’s Family Ornament Making event on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Families can create unique holiday decorations together in two sessions, making it a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.
Also, don’t miss the Songwriter Showcase at the Longmont Museum on Dec. 5, where you can enjoy original music by talented local artists.
Fun for All Ages
This Friday, Dec. 6, join the library’s Crafts and Cocoa events to get creative while enjoying hot cocoa.
The first session from 11 am-1 pm features bracelet-making, with registration required, while the second session from 2-4 pm offers earrings and keychain crafting, open to all.
It’s a fun way to spend time with loved ones while making holiday crafts.
Don’t miss out on the chance to sign up for youth basketball leagues, which are open for grades 3-12 until Sunday, Dec. 8.
The league includes weekly practices and games, plus perks like a Junior Nuggets jersey and a ticket to a Denver Nuggets game.
It’s a great way for kids to stay active and have fun this winter.
Community and Sustainability Updates
As winter sets in, it’s important to use deicers responsibly. While they help keep walkways safe, deicers can harm aquatic life when they flow into streams.
Be sure to follow instructions when applying deicers and remember that they don’t replace the need for shoveling.
Looking ahead, the Universal Recycling Ordinance will require composting for food wholesalers, distributors, and grocery stores starting Jan. 1, 2025.
The city is offering financial assistance to help businesses comply with this new phase.
Learn more about the ordinance and available support by visiting Longmont’s sustainability page or contacting the city’s sustainability team.
