The NCAR fire is 35% contained and estimated to have burned 190 acres, officials announced Monday morning.

The fire was within 1,000 yards of homes after igniting Saturday afternoon near the trails south of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, but crews kept the blaze from spreading further toward homes. All evacuations were lifted at 5 p.m. Sunday, allowing an estimated 1,629 individuals to return home.

More than 150 firefighters are on scene today. Operations were successful overnight, and crews feel confident fire lines will hold despite today’s windy weather, according to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management.

All roads in the area except NCAR Road are open, which officials expect to remain closed for several days. El Dorado Canyon State Park remains closed, the emergency management office said Monday.

There have been no reported injuries or damaged structures.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who was on or near the trails south of the National Center for Atmospheric Research around 2 p.m. Saturday and who may have information to call 720-564-2679 or email [email protected].
