Tom Roiniotis, the longtime general manager of Longmont Power & Communications who oversaw the creation of NextLight, will retire Sept. 28.
Roiniotis has headed LPC since 1999. In that time, the city-owned utility has been repeatedly recognized as a Reliable Public Power Provider by the American Public Power Association, successfully weathered a devastating flood in 2013, and built out the award-winning NextLight fiber-optic internet service, which was recognized in June by PC Magazine as the fastest ISP in the nation.
“I’m extremely proud of what this ‘All-America City’ has accomplished over the years and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it,” Roiniotis said. “I would like to thank the entire organization for all the work they’ve done to make Longmont a great place to work and live.”
Roiniotis also chairs the board of the Platte River Power Authority – the electric wholesale provider that is co-owned by Longmont, Loveland, Estes Park, and Fort Collins – and is a board member of the Longmont Economic Development Partnership. Prior to coming to Longmont, Roiniotis worked 18 years for Pacific Gas & Electric.
“Tom’s leadership of LPC has resulted in incredible success that includes providing consistently reliable electrical service at some of the most affordable rates in Colorado and building a broadband utility that is the envy of the nation,” City Manager Harold Dominguez said. “We will miss his energy, knowledge and leadership.”
Roiniotis said he was grateful for the backing he’d had from the city’s leadership, past and present, and for the outstanding team that has helped provide Longmont with electric and broadband service to be proud of.
“Continuing as a resident of this community,” Roiniotis said, “I look forward to seeing what great things this organization will accomplish in the future.”
