Chad Weber host tiny desk sessions in his studio apartment in Longmont

Chad Weber took a look at his studio apartment in Longmont and felt he wasn’t utilizing the space to its fullest potential. It was then that he decided to remove the large couch crowding the space and turn it into a creative space for tiny desk sessions.

Throughout his life, Weber has been in the filmmaking industry. He began working in TV in college and moved into journalism and other filmmaking. He later discovered that making documentaries was where his heart was because of the possibilities of creativity and the diversity of perspectives he could capture.

Inspired by National Public Radio’s Tiny Desk sessions, Weber dreamt to begin his own sessions. For a long time, he put off the idea, waiting for permission or funding to get started. When he decided to transform his space into a creative space, it was the permission he needed to start his dream.

Weber invited a friend, Jackson Maloney to his apartment for a pilot session. Maloney is a singer-songwriter and folk musician based in Hygiene, Colorado. Weber wanted the sessions to be more than musical performances. He wanted to make it a platform that allowed musical artists to relax and share their personalities as well as their musical talents.

Weber doesn’t yet know where the tiny desk series will go but he is excited to let it evolve organically. Recently, he hosted a music group that played Indian music. The session drew a larger crowd and have inspired Weber to explore more world music. So far he is hosting bands he enjoys, he said. Over time, he hopes that higher caliber guests stop by his apartment.

He says so far, hosting the sessions has not created an issue with his neighbors. He does find it amusing when touring vans pull up to his apartment, in the middle of Longmont, and begin jamming in his tiny apartment while sharing who they are.
