Longmont’s Ethan Overson placed first in 100 mile race

Unbound Gravel hosted their annual gravel race, where Overson placed first in one event.

A last minute decision to enter into the 100 mile race at the Overbound Gravel competition resulted in a first place win for Longmont local Ethan Overson.

“This was kind of a last minute decision to check the fitness and see how good we are going in the beginning of the year, or closer to the middle of the year,” Overson said, who has been professionally cycling for six years..

Overbound Gravel is one of the largest gravel cycling races in the world. The event contains three different distances, the 100 mile, 200 mile and 350 mile race. In the future, Overson hopes to participate in one of the longer distances.

“Next year, I am hoping to do the 200 and be able to put together a good performance next year just because it’s such a big race and there are so many sponsors and spectators there,” Overson said.

Overson is proud of his time and performance within this race, completing the 100 miles in only 5 hours.

“It felt good to kind of prove that all of the training and all of the hard work kind of pays off. I haven’t had very good luck at the start of the season, so it was nice to finally have a good result and put together a good performance,” Overson said.

Overson is currently preparing for the U23 Nationals which consists of three days of various racing events. He hopes to one day race in the Tour de France.

“I would like to make it to the next level and get on a bigger team, and put together a good performance at nationals and hopefully race at the World Tour level,” Overson said.
