Longmont Power and Communications To Test New Retardant on Poles

Longmont Power and Communications (LPC) will test a new fire retardant on Wednesday to safeguard power poles from wildfire damage.

The objective of this evaluation is to assess the product's efficacy in improving the resilience of local power infrastructure.

In light of the recent and significant threat posed by wildfires, LPC is dedicated to investigating preventive strategies that may lower fire risks and safeguard vital services for the people of Longmont.

Testing Date, Time, and Location

The Longmont Service Center, situated at 1100 South Sherman St., will commence the scheduled test at 9:30 a.m.

LPC has designated the South Bowen Street side of the property for the setup in order to ensure the safety of the test.

By selecting this site, LPC is able to keep the activities under control, lessening its effects on the neighborhood while maintaining public safety.

Two shortened power poles, each approximately 20 feet in height, will be installed for this evaluation.

To show the fire retardant's possible efficacy in comparison to the untreated pole, one of these poles will receive the treatment.
