Longmont police responded to a shooting at the Stonebridge at Twin Peaks apartment complex on Monday afternoon, December 9.

No injuries were reported, but the incident led to a standoff with SWAT later in the day.

Arrest Made After SWAT Standoff

Dana Joel Larson, 42, was taken into custody after a tense 15-minute standoff with the Longmont SWAT team.

Police had served a high-risk search warrant at his apartment after linking him to the shooting earlier that day.

Larson initially refused to leave his apartment, prompting officers to use tear gas or pepper spray to force his exit.

After being contacted by phone, he agreed to surrender peacefully.

Office Shooting and Property Damage

The incident began when staff at the apartment complex discovered bullet holes in the office walls on Monday morning.

Inside, there was additional damage, and outside, police found shell casings and an unspent shotgun shell.

Investigators determined the shots were fired into the office, causing the damage.

No one was present at the time of the shooting, and police quickly secured the area to collect evidence.

History of Prior Incidents with Suspect

This was not Larson’s first troubling encounter with the apartment staff.

On Nov. 14, he reportedly entered the office carrying a rifle and a large knife, alarming employees.

Though no violence occurred during that incident, it heightened tensions.

Due to repeated issues, the apartment management hired armed security and one staff member obtained a temporary protection order against Larson.

These measures reflected ongoing concerns about his behavior.
