The Longmont Museum will break ground on its expansion on Sept. 15. The community is invited to attend from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the museum’s outdoor courtyard, 400 Quail Rd.

The Friends of the Longmont Museum launched an $8.1 million capital campaign to expand and enhance the museum.

So far the nonprofit support group has raised 80% of the funding for the project.

The expansion project has four goals: to create a dedicated space for children to play, to double the size of the Flex Gallery to accommodate more exhibits, expand and enhance the courtyard and add a stage and increase office space and support space for staff.

The Longmont Museum began in 1940 with a small exhibit space in the Callahan House. Over the last 80 years it has become a hub for programming, exhibits and educational experiences.

“With its distinct local connections, the Longmont Museum symbolizes a community that embraces diversity, fosters connections, and celebrates a vibrant tapestry of customs and cultures,” the Friends of the Museum’s website states.
