The City of Longmont announced today that 5th Avenue, just east of the intersection with Coffman Street, is temporarily closed for paving. The closure began on April 7, according to a post on the city’s website.
In the same update, the city said that Longs Peak Avenue is also closed just east of Coffman Street for approximately one week. “This closure is necessary to pave the intersection for the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements project,” the city stated.
The closure details are as follows:
The intersection of Coffman Street and Longs Peak Avenue is closed to all through traffic until next week.
Parking spaces on east 5th Avenue closest to Coffman Street are closed.
Eastbound traffic on 5th Avenue can turn right onto southbound Coffman Street but cannot continue through the intersection.
Westbound traffic on 5th Avenue must turn around and exit back to Main Street or use the alley between Main and Coffman.
Access to businesses on 5th Avenue east of Coffman remains open via Main Street and the alley.
Also part of the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements project, the city closed the northbound lanes of Coffman Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues on March 24 for concrete work. That closure is expected to last three months. Asphalt paving also began March 24 between 6th and 9th avenues, with those northbound lanes expected to reopen in mid-April.
Construction on Coffman Street began in June 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in summer 2026.
