The 11th Annual Longmont Earth Day Celebration will be on Saturday April 19 at Timberline PK-8 School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme for this year’s free event is “Our Power, Our Planet” and will include both education and entertainment. The annual event was founded by Sustainable Resilient Longmont, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering a sustainable and thriving community through education, advocacy, and action.

Musicians Jeff and Paige will be performing family-friendly music on the main stage during the event. The duo provides “exciting fun-filled concerts, albums, and nature and science activities filled with love of the outdoors and ecology, bringing concepts like insect anatomy, energy conservation and plate tectonics to the whole family.”

My Nature Lab, a non-profit that describes itself as a “living classroom,” will also provide main stage entertainment with reptiles and amphibians. Grupo Folklorico Mexico Lindo and Bailes de mi Tierra will also provide dancing entertainment for the main stage. Reptiles, alpacas, and Longmont Humane Society ambassador animals will be on site for families to meet.

The event will include education about sustainability and renewable energy. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive on bicycle to partake in an all-ages community bike ride at 1:30 p.m. There will be an electric vehicle showcase for attendees to see new models of EVs and speak with owners of the vehicles.

Attendees are encouraged to bring clothing for the Vulture Collective’s Clothing Swap and to also look through the options for free clothes to take home. People will have the opportunity to create sustainable artwork at the event alongside other artists who will be displaying their work to the public.

“We hope to inspire everyone to take action in their daily lives towards a more sustainable, empowered future by signing our pledge tree,” said Sustainable Resilient Longmont’s events and outreach manager Gina Burrows. “We can’t wait to see everyone for this year’s event!”
