CU Boulder announced on Friday morning that Ashley Griffin will become the university’s new chief of police on July 1. Griffin was selected after a nationwide search for the university’s first new chief of police in seven years.

According to the university, Griffin is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has a master’s degree in public safety from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Indiana University. She has been working as the assistant chief of police at the University of Texas at Austin since January of 2024. She has been with the UT Austin Police Department since 2007.

“Ashley Griffin is deeply committed to CU Boulder’s holistic approach to public safety and will work to immediately understand and strengthen existing partnerships and procedures,” said Marlon Lynch, CU Boulder’s vice chancellor for public safety in the university’s press release.

“I am looking forward to supporting CU and the special events that are increasing on campus and to continuing the strong partnership with surrounding law enforcement agencies,” Griffin said.

The position was previously held by Doreen Jokerst, who served as the police chief from 2018 until her departure in 2023. Randy Repola has been serving as the interim chief until Griffin’s appointment.
