A consultant has joined the race for Longmont City Council’s Ward I seat.

Nia Wassink is the third candidate to file for the November election and has worked as a consultant on campaigns for County Commissioner Marta Loachamin and Councilmember Shiquita Yarbrough. Wassink’s firm, Prismatic Consulting, specializes in nonprofit fundraising, board governance, DEI and political strategy.

“After working with so many local nonprofits and supporting a number of political campaigns, I’m stepping up to run, myself,” Wassink said in a press release.

Wassink has worked with several local organizations including the Longmont Museum, The Inn Between, Out Boulder County and TLC Learning Center.

“This exposure to so many of the direct service providers and cultural organizations in Longmont gives me a broad perspective on the City, one that I look forward to leveraging on behalf of residents,” Wassink said.

Wassink volunteers her time on projects like the Longmont Juneteenth Celebration planning committee and on boards like TGTHR, the youth shelter and housing organization for Boulder County. She and her husband, Colin, have lived in Longmont since 2015.

Covering the eastern segment of Longmont, Ward I is an open race after incumbent Councilmember Tim Waters announced his decision not to run for reelection. Ethan Augreen and Harrison Earl have also declared their candidacy for the ward.
