St. Vrain Valley School District students will soon get easier access to more books and other research materials through new partnerships with local libraries.

The district and the city of Longmont recently agreed to let St. Vrain students check out physical and digital resources at the Longmont Library by using their district identification cards or login credentials. Students will not have to have a separate library card to check out books or use online material, Nancy Kerr, the city’s library director, said via email.

The arrangement is similar to the program between the other libraries in the Flatirons Library Consortium and the Boulder Valley School District, Kerr said. The Flatirons Library Consortium includes Boulder, Broomfield, Louisville, Longmont, Lafayette and Loveland Public Libraries.

The St. Vrain Valley and Longmont Library program has yet to begin, so there is no estimate how many students will be involved, she said.

“...But we anticipate at the very least an increase in the use of our subscription databases which have incredible resources to use for homework assignments and research,” Kerr said.

St. Vrain is also finalizing the technology authentication testing to begin the same service through the High Plains Library District, St. Vrain School District spokeswoman Keri McDermid said.

The High Plains Library District serves over 245,000 residents of Weld County and parts of Boulder County. It covers a geographic area of almost 4,000 square miles, according to the district’s website.
