Johnson’s Station opens in Prospect

The grand opening runs from 5-8 p.m.

Johnson’s Station, located at 1111 Neon Forest Circle, in Longmont opens at 5 p.m. Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. The iconic 150-year-old building mentioned in Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road,” was moved to Longmont in the 1930s is now home to a restaurant and bar with co-working spaces for daytime patrons.

The building has maintained its historical essence although it had to be completely renovated inside to meet modern codes, said Sofia Silva, general manager. It has kept its original windows and doors.

Out front are three vintage gas pumps. Instead of fueling cars with gasoline, they have been converted into electric vehicle charging stations.

Johnson’s Station has two bars, a main bar inside and a rooftop bar. The main bar is fully stocked with local beers and spirits that will quench anyone’s thirst. The rooftop bar was created from an old Airstream travel trailer. Silva said the rooftop bar will open mostly on the weekends and will serve slushies in addition to beer and spirits.

Also located inside will be an ice cream bar that will include ice cream from a local business. It will also include a restaurant — separate from your bar tab — that will offer all of your 50s diner favorites.

Located upstairs are three quaint areas that provide a quiet environment for people who are looking to get a little work done or just need a relaxing area to grab a drink.

The Johnson’s Station team has transformed the outside space to include an abundance of seating, a fire pit, a place to play cornhole and more.

Beginning in October the newly converted restaurant will begin hosting events. Silva said she is really excited about finding a way to match the Prospect area’s excitement for Halloween and can’t wait to see what her team comes up with.

The grand opening runs from 5-8 p.m. and then the restaurant will open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
