The Regional Transportation District, or RTD, has been changing how it interacts with its customers. On Jan. 1, the public transit provider reduced and simplified its fares. It has also switched from a smart card system to a mobile option.

RTD offered an EcoPass and CollegePass through its smart card system. These programs allowed employers and schools to offer prepaid or discount passes for RTD rides.

The programs were tied to a smart card system and in spring 2023, RTD began transitioning the card system to the agency’s MyRide system.

The MyRide system uses a mobile app that allows passengers to scan a barcode to pay for an RTD ride. The system monitors a person’s rides for a month and ensures that the recently adopted fare-capping policies apply to a rider’s account.

To help businesses and schools transition, RTD offered a series of webinars and one-on-one training sessions attended by over 720 local coordinators, according to RTD’s media relations. Those who are struggling to transfer accounts can contact RTD at 303-299-6000.

The new MyRide system replaced the EcoPass and CollegePass programs on Jan. 31 and all smart card systems were decommissioned.

RTD also created a MyRide card for those who prefer a physical card or don’t own a smartphone.
