The City of Boulder announced Saturday that a man was arrested early that morning after intentionally ramming his car multiple times into a Boulder Police Department patrol vehicle.

Robert Saraduke, 62, was booked on multiple charges, including felony first-degree assault of a peace officer, reckless driving, felony criminal attempt, resisting arrest, and misdemeanor menacing.

At around 12:45 a.m. on March 15, Saraduke pulled up to two officers in marked patrol cars at a gas station on the 4700 block of Baseline Road while driving a Saab. When officers asked if he needed help, Saraduke suddenly drove into one of the police vehicles, ramming it three times before getting out and approaching the officer’s car on foot.

According to city officials, both officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, warning Saraduke that he would be tased if he did not comply. Saraduke refused, telling officers to shoot him. One officer deployed her taser, and after he fell to the ground, Saraduke continued resisting before being taken into custody. He was not injured during the incident.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn praised the officers' response: “I am incredibly thankful no one was injured during this targeted assault on one of our officers. Our officers were not responding to a call or making an arrest—yet the suspect chose to engage and target them, ramming a patrol car and seemingly trying to force a confrontation.”
