Wildfires have devastated many families in Colorado over the past few years. One thing that always comes from the event is that Coloradans rally to help one another recover. On Saturday, several local groups are gathering together to host a fundraiser to help the individuals and families impacted by the fire.

Lyons Lions Club, Cemex and Spirit Hound Distillers are hosting a fundraiser on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at Spirit Hound Distillers, 4196 Ute Hwy in Lyons. The event will feature live music by Venture Still at 5:30 p.m. and will offer a meal of pork and sides, cooked onsite.

“We hope the community will join us on Saturday for a fundraiser in support of those who lost their homes in the Stone Canyon Fire,” said Jerry Tabor, president of the Lyons Lions Club.  “We appreciate the willingness of our community to come together and support our neighbors and am grateful to Spirit Hound Distillers and Cemex for partnering with us, so that 100% of the funds raised will go to the Lyons Stone Canyon Fire victims.”

On July 30, a fire broke out in the Stone Canyon area just outside of Lyons. The following day the Lakeshore fire began in the Lakeshore Park neighborhood near Gross Reservoir. Together the two fires destroyed six Boulder County homes and homes in neighboring counties, according to Boulder County. Four firefighters reported injuries and one person was reported dead on July 31.The devastaing fire burned 1,557-acres.

It took fire crews six days to reach 100% containment. During the initial days of the fire, families in the area were asked to evacuate. Boulder County Fairgrounds housed animals. Some families were able to return to their homes the following day.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting witht he investigation into the cause of the Stone Canyon fire. Officials believe that it may have been caused by a person.

The organizers of the fundraiser hope to raise at least $10,000 to help those impacted by the fire. Tickets to the event are $25 for the concert and a meal. Those interested in donating but are unable to attend send their donation to Lyons Lions Club at P.O. Box 1415, Lyons, CO 80540 with a note that the funds should benefit the fire victims.

“We believe that when we come together, we can make a greater impact, and we hope the funds raised help our impacted neighbors, friends and families begin the rebuilding process,” said Michael Clausen, Cemex Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.
