Longmont officers and fire personnel responded to a fire in the 612 10th Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 15.
While fire personnel from Fire Station 1 worked to suppress the fire, a fire investigator began working with officers to investigate the scene.
It was discovered, based on witness statements and video surveillance that John C. Miller, age 52, was suspected to have caused the fire.
Miller was arrested and taken to Boulder County Jail. He was charged with 1st degree Arson, 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Use of and Explosive Device.
The explosive device referred to was a propane tank that was placed near where the fire was initiated. However, according to a press release from Longmont Public Safety, the tank did not explode in the fire.
The fire is expected to have caused many thousands of dollars worth of damage to the business.
