On Wednesday, Longmont Power and Communications will test a new product to better protect power poles from fires. People in the area of the Service Center at 1100 S. Sherman St. may see smoke. LPC said there is no need to be alarmed.
The new product is designed to better protect power poles from wildfires, according to LPC. The test will include taking two shortened poles, roughly 20 feet, and treating one with the new product to test its effectiveness.
A fire crew from Longmont Public Safety will be on hand and the test will only be conducted if the weather permits. The test is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Anyone with questions about the testing may call LPC at 303-651-8386 for more information.
