Longmont residents will gather this evening at the Longmont Senior Center from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the Vision Zero Task Force’s first meeting. Vision Zero is a strategy that was implemented by the City of Longmont in 2023 that aims to improve traffic safety and accessibility within the city and to eliminate fatal and serious traffic crashes in Longmont by 2040.
The Vision Zero Network is an international nonprofit campaign focused on ending traffic fatalities and severe injuries. The plan focuses on increasing safety for all modes of transportation, including walking, biking, driving, and public transit.
The Vision Zero Task Force will bring together community members and city staff bimonthly to collaborate on safety solutions tailored to Longmont. Future sessions scheduled for June 5, August 7, October 2, and December 4. During the meeting, community members will participate in discussions with city planners, offering insights and sharing safety concerns.
At the end of each year, the City of Longmont posts annual crash reports, which include data on fatal traffic accidents that occurred. The reports are posted on the city’s website on the Vision Zero page. According to the website, there have been no fatal crashes in Longmont so far in 2025.
The city is also developing a Vision Zero Crash Storymap, which will allow the public to explore and interact with crash data in a visual format. This storymap will help to identify patterns in traffic incidents and highlight areas that need safety attention.
Vision Zero Task Force meetings are open to the public, with food provided. Community members should preregister for the meetings online.
