Longmont Public Media is a media makerspace located at 457 Fourth Ave. The nonprofit offers a home for creatives who enjoy showcasing their work through all types of media. On Wednesday, LPM announced it had won an award for a video made on a live performance in its recording studio.

In April 2023, LPM hosted an event, in collaboration with The Soundpost Sessions, to showcase the musical talent of Alexa Wildish + Humbird. The show was recorded by the LPM team and later submitted to the 2024 WAVE Awards.

The video won the Best Arts, Entertainment & Performance category for “captivating audiences with its mesmerizing performances and captivating storytelling,” a news release stated.

"We are incredibly honored to receive this prestigious award for The Soundpost Sessions: Alexa Wildish + Humbird show," said Sergio R. Angeles, executive director, at Longmont Public Media. "This recognition is a testament to the power of community media, the hard work and dedication of our talented team, volunteers, and members, as well as the incredible talent and artistry of Alexa Wildish and Humbird. We are immensely proud of this achievement and grateful for the opportunity to share this extraordinary performance with audiences around the world."

Angeles said the video was recorded using the studio’s Black Magic Studio 4K camera. Volunteers and around seven members of The Soundpost Sessions and LPM teams utilized the audio mixer in the nonprofit's audio studio to capture the crisp sounds of the musical performance.

"We are truly privileged to collaborate with immensely talented musicians, producers, and engineers at The Soundpost Sessions,” said Tim Gulsrud, president of Soundpost Productions. “This show resulted from a unique convergence of thrilling performances by Alexa Wildish and Humbird, an attentive live studio audience, pristine audio production by Zach Balch, and meticulous video production by LPM staff and volunteers. We are grateful for the recognition of the 2024 WAVE award for this show.”

LPM also submitted three other films to the awards. The three films included “Little by Little: Becoming Sister Cities,” “Behind the Lens: Meet Three Classic Cameras,” and “About The Weight Pile on The Rockies.” Each of these films made it to the finals in their categories.

Angeles and his team look for opportunities to submit members’ work to award programs as a way to showcase their potential as filmmakers and the contributions they make to the creative community.
