Longmont Museum reopening on Tuesday after months-long COVID-caused closure

The Museum, closed since March, is opening with a host of new safety procedures in place and new Tuesday through Saturday hours.

The Longmont Museum will reopen its doors on Tuesday.

The Museum, closed since March, is opening with a host of new procedures in place to help ensure safety, including enhanced cleaning, limitations on the number of people allowed in the building at a time, signage for physical distancing and reduced hours. The temporary reopening hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Visitors older than  3 will be required to wear masks, and disposable masks will be available for people who arrive without one.

The special exhibition, “Terry Maker: Because the World is Round,” which had been scheduled to close in May, is now extended through Sept. 13.  Colorado artist Maker takes commonplace materials, cutting and combining them into dense and tactile wall reliefs and large-scale freestanding sculptures. An exhibition catalog is available for purchase online and in the Museum’s Gift Shop.

The Museum’s permanent exhibit documenting 14,000 years of human history in the St. Vrain Valley, ”Front Range Rising,” also will be open. However, the hands-on areas of the Museum, including the third floor Longs Peak Room treehouse, will remain closed.

Programming, including summer camp and the annual Summer Concert Series, will continue to be virtual during the initial phase of reopening.

Memberships will automatically be extended by the number of days the Museum was closed.
