Introducing The Leader’s bilingual community correspondent, Silvia Romero Solís

My role goes beyond simple storytelling, I am a cultural broker between local media and the community that surrounds me. I hope to elevate local stories; to be a listening ear and to help convey an idea of what the people in this community are all about.

I feel extremely honored and grateful to be joining The Longmont Leader as a bilingual community correspondent and to have the opportunity to really dive into the community, learn about its systems and members, and tell the stories of the people that make up such an amazing place.

I am not a Longmont native. I was born and raised in Mexico, and have lived abroad and in multiple cities in the U.S. for the past few years. Having been a nomad for a while, I’ve come to realize and sincerely appreciate the importance of community. Three and a half years ago, when my husband and I were trying to figure out where we might go from a small apartment on the Oaxacan coast, we found Longmont. While we didn’t quite know what we were in for, something about this place called to us. Now we better understand what was appealing to us about this place: its historic character, the mix of city and country life that makes up its streets and neighborhoods, the diversity of its people, and an emanating hometown essence.

This is where we’ve come to settle down and where I’ve come to make good friends, good neighbors, and a home.

From the bottom of my heart, I am thankful for the warm welcome I’ve received as a resident of this town and want to contribute to continue making it a great place to live. I hope that through my work at The Leader, I am able to share a diversity of information that connects all who live here.

My role goes beyond simple storytelling, I am a cultural broker between local media and the community that surrounds me. I hope to elevate local stories; to be a listening ear and to help convey an idea of what the people in this community are all about.

I’m always happy to chat and hear your thoughts, feedback and ideas. Please feel free to connect with me anytime at [email protected].
