Wildlife fire crews took advantage of the cooler weather yesterday and have successfully contained the Lefthand Canyon Fire, reported Boulder OEM late yesterday.
The fire at Lefthand Canyon will continuted to be monitored in the coming days and to make improvements as necessary to fire lines. At 100% containment, the fire burned 460 acres.
Progress was also made on the CalWood Fire where crews increased containment to 55%. The burn area has reached 10,073 acres and crews are working on all sides to increase containment.
According to an update by Troy Hagan, Rocky Mountain Incident Management incident commander, "fire behavior is expected to be light to moderate through the day."
The weather will continue to be cool, cloudy and moist through Friday however Friday night a Fire Weather Watch will be in effect over both fires due to low humidity and winds that could gust up to 20-25 mph at CalWood and 25-30 mph at Lefthand Canyon.
Boulder OEM also announced that all restrictions to residents have been lifted and residents may return to their homes. Officials would like residents to note "if you live within a residential area with extensive fire damage, Sheriff’s deputies may ask you to leave again by 6 p.m."
Boulder County has also established sanitation stations in several locations to dispose of spoiled food waste. These stations also will offer portable toilets and hand washing/sanitation stations.
