The Boulder County commissioners have appointed a new director of Housing and Human Services.
Susan Caskey has been serving as interim director of the county’s largest department for the last year and will continue to be responsible for the county’s delivery of programs and services to children, families and older adults.
“Susan brings a wealth of experience to the role of Housing and Human Services Director and the county commissioners are confident that she is the right person to lead the department,” Commissioner Matt Jones said. “As interim director, Susan has repeatedly exemplified the leadership, focus and compassion needed to successfully lead a department that delivers so many essential services that are crucial for the health and wellbeing of so many county residents.”
Responsibilities of the Housing and Human Services Department includes housing, food assistance, financial and child care assistance, education, skill building and health coverage.
A Boulder County resident for 21 years, Caskey has worked for the department since 2015, when the Integrated Managed Partnership for Adolescent and Child Community Treatment, or IMPACT, became part of county government. As director of IMPACT since 2009, Caskey provided leadership and strategic direction for a 13-agency collaboration between Boulder County and several 501(c)3 nonprofits.
In addition to her role with IMPACT, Caskey was the director for the housing and human services division that included the Family Resource Network, community contracts, utilization management and prevention services.
“My home and heart are with Boulder County and I am thrilled to be selected as the next Housing and Human Services Director,” Caskey said. “I’m looking forward to continuing the work of helping to support the community and our staff to thrive.”
Prior to her work with IMPACT, Caskey worked for Community Justice Services in Boulder County’s Community Services Department, as well as several nonprofit organizations in Boulder County and Madison, Wisconsin.
The county said after hearing feedback from semi-finalist and finalist interview panelists, as well as Housing and Human Services staff and community partners, Caskey emerged as the top candidate among a field of strong applicants in the nationwide search process. Her official start date was Friday.
