The City Council Tuesday night will review development ideas for the Great Western Sugar Mill site and the area proposed for the creation of Science, Technology, Education and Arts - or STEAM - presence in southeast Longmont.
City staff members have been studying the 275 acres that encircle the Sugar Plant and STEAM project along with a consulting team led by Stantec to develop a detailed plan for development, a city staff report states.
The city has also conducted community outreach efforts that included an online survey in January, which garnered about 250 responses. The city sponsored a virtual community meeting on March 2, which was attended by 100 community members, the staff report states.
In addition, the development team is partnering with a group of third grade students from Indian Peaks Elementary School, who are providing feedback through a classroom design challenge, the report states.
In one survey, townhomes were picked as appropriate housing for the project area by a majority of respondents. A high occupancy lane connection from the STEAM area was also picked as a top response for transportation alternatives , the survey states.
Councilors are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m.
