Gov. Jared Polis has appointed Boulder County Commissioner Elise Jones to the Regional Transportation District Accountability Committee.
Appointments to the committee, which was created in June, were announced Friday via a news release from Polis’ office. Jones was one of 11 committee members appointed by Polis and state lawmakers.
“Each of these members brings their own unique experience and vision to help figure out what we need to do to turn around RTD and move toward the goal of a truly effective regional transportation system that works for everyone,” Polis stated in the release. “This is an important opportunity to fix things and continue working to meet the needs of hardworking Coloradans, small businesses, tourists, and everyone who is impacted by RTD each day.”
Jones has served as Boulder County commissioner since 2013, and has been an advocate for multimodal transportation, equity, sustainability and climate action. Her transportation policy experience includes serving as the former chairperson of the Denver Regional Council of Governments, a member of the U.S. 36 Mayors & Commissioners Coalition, an appointee to the Air Quality Control Commission and Regional Air Quality Council, and as a statewide Transportation Advisory Committee representative, according to the release.
Polis appointed five committee members, including Jones, and the chairpersons of state House and Senate transportation committees named another six.
Rep. Matt Gray, D-Broomfield, chairperson of the House Committee on Transportation and Local Government, in the release, stated “This committee is going to help put RTD back on the right track and provide the support to help build a better system for Coloradans. Transportation is an issue that affects so many people in our state, and this collaborative approach brings a diverse group of voices to the table to tackle these issues.”
