Dear Longmont,
For the past eight years, I have had the pleasure and privilege of writing for the Longmont Leader. Unfortunately, that time has come to an end.
Tomorrow the Longmont Leader will close.
This is a day I hoped would never come. Having a strong community-focused newsroom is an asset that keeps a community connected.
As many of you know, working for the Leader has been a passion for me since its founding days. I have learned so much from this community, especially that it is full of hard-working, wonderful people who have the best intentions at heart, even if they occasionally miss the mark.
It is a sad day to post one last piece to a site where I have spent so much time sharing the stories of this community. It was a joy for me to wake up each day to see what new things were happening in our community, a feeling I will miss.
It has been an honor to write for this publication. This community has provided me with a home. It has been a place where I have been proud to raise my children and a place where I have found what Longmont is best at providing; a community.
I want to thank each and every one of you for reading our news each day. Your stories have drawn together a community of people who have raised money for cancer patients, supported families, gathered for community events, changed the minds of government officials and so much more. It has been a privilege to have been a part of it all.
I don’t yet know what the future holds for me, but rest assured that wherever I go, I will get there and be better for knowing and working with all of you.
Wishing you all the best,
Macie May
