A new Costco is set to open in Castle Rock in 2027, marking a major retail addition to the growing community.
Located at the northwest corner of Crystal Valley Parkway and Interstate 25, the store is part of the larger Dawson Trails development.
While many look forward to the convenience, some residents are concerned about traffic and the town’s small-town feel.
Construction Plans and Timeline
The new Costco will feature a 160,000-square-foot warehouse, 880 parking spaces, and a fuel center.
The store is expected to serve both Castle Rock residents and shoppers from surrounding areas, making it more convenient for those who previously had to travel to Lone Tree.
Opening in spring 2027, the Costco will coincide with the completion of the Crystal Valley Interchange, which will improve access to the store.
Site preparation is already underway, with infrastructure work—including roads, utilities, and drainage—set to continue in the coming months.
Community Reactions and Concerns
The announcement of Costco’s arrival has sparked mixed reactions.
Many are excited about the convenience, with some residents eager for a closer shopping option.
"It's nice to have something like that close," said Jen Dudley, a local Costco member.
However, concerns about increased traffic and parking issues have also surfaced.
Some worry the parking lot may become overcrowded, particularly during peak hours.
"I hope the parking lot is better than the one in Park Meadows," Dudley added.
Others are concerned that the new developments will change the town’s small-town atmosphere.
Economic Impact and Development Plans
Costco’s opening will create about 300 local jobs and generate significant sales tax revenue.
The Dawson Trails development, which will bring nearly 6,000 homes and 3.2 million square feet of business space, will further transform the area.
Developer Larry Jacobson believes Costco will enhance Castle Rock’s economy.
"It’s going to be an integral part of Castle Rock," he said.
With the store’s design and location carefully planned, it is expected to be a positive addition to the neighborhood and help drive future growth.
Costco’s arrival in 2027 will be a key milestone in Castle Rock’s development, with the store serving as a hub for both shopping and economic opportunity.
