Nepali Jatra — an event created to educate and strengthen people’s connections to their Nepalese roots — offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage of Nepal and aims to create a memorable experience for everyone, explained Sunanda Dangol, the event organizer.
“By taking the initiative to learn about and explore other cultures in our local community, we can foster a sense of unity and appreciation that transcends any boundaries or divisions,” Dangol said, adding that it is an opportunity for all attendees to come together and celebrate the rich tapestry of humanity as a united whole.
Cultural festivals like Tihar, also known as the Festival of Lights, will be a highlight of Nepali Jatra. Through a captivating video presentation, viewers will have the chance to learn about the meaning and rituals of the festival and gain a deeper understanding of the traditions that shape the Nepalese way of life.
The Lakhey dance performance — known for its mesmerizing artistry and powerful presence — is another must-see at Nepali Jatra, and food lovers will be delighted by the opportunity to try mouthwatering Newari cuisine.
“These flavorful dishes, with authentic spices, are not commonly found in local restaurants, giving you a true taste of Nepal’s culinary treasures,” Dangol explained.
Families and younger attendees are well-catered to at Nepali Jatra, with engaging activities like arts and crafts stations and games that provide children with an interactive way to have fun and explore Nepali culture.
Admission to the event is free, ensuring accessibility for all, as Dangol firmly believes that cultural sharing is a valuable experience and that we all have something to learn from one another. By removing financial barriers, Dangol hopes to create an inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy and immerse themselves in the richness of Nepali culture.
