Over 100 seventh- and eighth-grade students from all of St. Vrain Valley School District’s eight middle schools will join together for a middle school honor choir performance on Jan. 16 at 6;30 p.m. at Niwot High School, 8989 Niwot Rd.
Choir students from across the district auditioned in October for a spot. Those with the highest scores were invited to participate in the honor choir. Students were broken into two groups — soprano/alto and tenor/bass choirs.
Each student in the honor choir was given music to study over winter break. This week the students will meet for a short practice and then spend all day on Jan. 16 pulling the performance together before opening the doors to the public.
While the students are working on combining their talents for a public performance, they also have an opportunity to make new friends at other middle schools, said Jonah Bartels, music teacher at Trail Ridge Middle School and assisting director for the middle school honor choir.
“Those kids don’t always get an opportunity to do many things with students from other schools … this event every year, is one way to give them a chance to see those other kids, perform with them and make friends from other schools,” Bartels said.
The performance is open to the public with an entry fee of $6 for adults and $5 for students.
