Virginia Marie Lengel, fondly known as Virginia, gracefully left this world on July 28, 2023. She was born on July 11, 1929, in Idalia, Colorado, to her loving parents. Virginia's bright spirit and immense love for her family and community will forever be remembered.
Growing up on her family farm near the Old Boden School, Virginia developed an early appreciation for hard work and home-cooked meals. She spent her younger years helping around the house and learning the art of cooking from her grandmother. This foundation shaped Virginia's passion for taking care of her family and providing them with delicious homemade delights.
Upon attaining an education at the Old Boden School, just one mile from her family farm, Virginia radiated intelligence and a thirst for knowledge. She carried these traits throughout her life, always seeking new opportunities to expand her horizons.
After completing her education, Virginia embarked on a remarkable career as a cook for the Idalia School. For many years she brought joy to students' bellies with her delectable creations. Her dedication was unmatched as she tirelessly ensured that every meal was prepared with love and attention to detail.
Outside of work, Virginia embraced life's simple pleasures and pursued various hobbies. She cherished moments of camaraderie in the Burville Gals bowling club where she bowled alongside cherished friends. Her talent extended beyond the bowling alley as she also excelled in ceramics work, creating beautiful pieces that showcased her creativity.
Virginia's hands were skilled not only at shaping clay but also at stitching together memories through quilting and sewing. With love in every stitch, she created intricate quilts that served as cherished heirlooms within her family. Her craftsmanship left an indelible mark on each piece she crafted.
In conjunction with her husband Galen Lengel, Virginia devoted herself to tending to their beloved farm. The open fields and sprawling landscapes provided a serene backdrop for their shared journey. From sunup to sundown, Virginia's unwavering dedication and hard work were evident as she played an integral role in the success of their farming endeavors.
Throughout her life, Virginia resided in only two homes: the one she was born into and, later on, Galen's family home. Her steadfast commitment to her roots epitomized her deep love for tradition and family heritage.
Virginia's proudest accomplishments extended beyond her career, hobbies, and home. She cherished the bonds formed within the Benay's quilting club, where lifelong friendships were nurtured amidst shared passion and creativity. Virginia revered these connections and held them close to her heart.
Above all else, Virginia was defined by her unfaltering love for her family. Her husband Galen was a pillar of strength by her side throughout their journey together. Together they raised three loving children who brought great joy to their lives: Donna (Gene) Gersten, Diana (Mark) Fletcher, and Mark (Debb) Lengel.
In addition to her immediate family, Virginia leaves behind a beloved sister Dorothy (Denny) Whitmore and a host of eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Virginia's adoring nature shone through as she showered each member of her extensive family with unwavering love and affection.
