Shirley Lynn (Winbourn) Renner, age 72, died April 26, 2023 at Memorial Central Hospital, Colorado Springs CO.

Shirley was born February 5, 1951 at Cortez, Colorado the third child of Len and Dora Winbourn. Shirley grew up with her brothers Bud, Ted, and Chip helping their dad Len Winbourn with his horse business Wagon Wheel Stables. As the only daughter Shirley spent a lot of time with her mom Dora, learning to garden, can, sew, cook, tend to livestock and to make really good pies. She spent a lot of time horseback, competing in youth rodeos and was the Cortez rodeo queen. Larry Renner came to work for Shirley’s dad training horses.

After he served in the army he returned to his “yellow haired girl” and they were united in marriage on December 5, 1965 in Aztec, New Mexico. To this union 8 children were born. Sandy, infant twins Joseph Lee and Joseph Dee, infant twins Michael and Michelene, Ira, Stella and Molly. The family lived on their place north of Kit Carson where Shirley provided for her family, by gardening, canning, keeping chickens, milking cows and goats and sewing clothes. Times were hard, but she always took care of her family while working part time at the café to support the family income. The family moved to Cimmaron, New Mexico for a short time while Larry worked on the UU Bar Ranch.

Shirley loved New Mexico, but the family soon moved back to Cheyenne Wells where Shirley became the caretaker of the Fairgrounds for 15 years while also driving school bus. She drove school bus to multiple school events so she could go watch her kids at away games and meets. Shirley loved photography and taking pictures of horses, cattle, brandings, her kid’s rodeos and sporting events. She also loved sewing and quilting and made quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley got her GED in her thirties and after becoming a grandmother she entered the nursing program at Colby Community College where she received her LPN degree.

Her children were very proud of her. Shirley worked as an LPN in Kansas, Nevada, and Colorado until a stroke at the age of 65 forced her to retire. Having multiple strokes, Shirley always had a determined and bright outlook and worked hard to come back after each stroke. Shirley is survived by her children Sandy (Leon Scheck) Renner of Dighton, KS. Ira (Monti) Renner of Jiggs, NV. Stella Worley of Cheyenne Wells, CO. Molly (Jason) Lamb of Russell Springs, KS. 12 grandchildren, Samantha Reinhart, Dillon, Ethan, Dawson, Evan, Savannah and Serenity Worley. Emily Kemp and Peggy Kern. Zeke Renner. Maddie Davis and Macey Lamb. 11 great grandchildren Cooper, Aubree, Corbin, Suzana, Briana, Olivia, Weston, Austin, Jax, Brayden & Harper.
