JANUARY 6, 1955 – FEBRUARY 26, 2021

Phillip (Phil) Lee Wigotow passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on February 26th, 2021. Phil was a fighter and known for beating the odds. He conquered brain cancer, West Nile encephalitis, and subsequent traumatic brain injuries. When he had a stroke on January 16th, 2021, he could not fight any longer and went to his final home in heaven with his precious Lord and Savior.

Phil was born in Boulder on January 6, 1955, to Helen (Johnson) and Joseph (George) Wigotow. He attended Columbine Elementary, Centennial Middle School, Boulder High, and Colorado State University before joining his siblings to run Starr’s Clothing, the family business his grandfather started in 1914. He made many lifelong friends while running a successful business on Pearl Street, but his greatest accomplishment was his family. He married Mary Lynn in 1977 and together they raised 3 children, Christy, Josh, and Cara. Sadly, Mary passed away in 2010.

In the last decade of his life, Phil enjoyed semi-retirement, spending time working for a friend in Boulder, cheering on his favorite sports teams, and exploring Colorado with his wife, Marla, and her family. Phil was a loving husband, father and grandfather known best for his sense of humor and the gift of joke-telling. He loved the “typical dad jokes” but was also known to say something funny when you were least expecting it. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Marla, his children, Chris (Aaron) and children Owen and Emma Quinn of Charleston, SC; Josh (Aileen) and children Henry and Abe Wigotow of Lancaster, PA; Cara (Sean) and daughter Hazel McKelvie of Salt Lake City, UT; stepchildren Amy Schweikert, Kelly Schweikert of Boulder, CO; Emily (Cale) Soole and children Steele and Taytum of Thornton, CO; sister Judy (Jack) Coppom of Longmont, CO; brother Steve (Karen) Wigotow of Castle Pines, CO, 3 nephews, 2 nieces, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, his parents, and his brother, Joe.

The memorial service is being planned for spring.

In memory of Phil please do an act of kindness for someone else or tell a joke and make someone laugh. Pay forward the kindness Phil was known for.
