Marvin Otto Huth was born May 27, 1926 and went to his heavenly home June 21, 2021. He lived a long, meaningful, and loving life for over 95 years.
Marvin was born at home in Karnes County, Texas to Louis Huth and Minnie Fenner Huth. He grew up on the farm and stayed to help farm with his family for three years after graduating from high school. He then earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Texas Lutheran College, and went on to Wartburg Seminary to study to become a pastor with the American Lutheran Church (later the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America).
Marvin married his college sweetheart, Gertrude "Trudie" Strey, on June 18, 1950. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2019.
Marvin and Trudie returned to Texas after he finished his seminary studies, where he was the first called pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Angleton, Texas. Both their daughters (Deborah and Karen) were born there.
In 1960, the family moved to San Antonio so Marvin could begin a new mission church on the north side, where the city was expanding. He remained at Shepherd King Lutheran Church until his retirement in 1991. They were later members at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church where he continued to share ministry through a variety of volunteer efforts.
Through the years of his ministry, Marvin was instrumental in building these two congregations and expanding ministries in the community. His wife, Trudie, worked alongside him to create mission and outreach through the church community. They provided a welcoming presence, sharing the love of Christ to friends and strangers alike.
Marvin and Trudie moved to Loveland, Colorado in 2014 to be closer to their daughter Deborah. While in Loveland, they made many friends in the church and in their neighborhood, and continued to share their love of life with all they met.
Marvin was great at telling stories and remembering details, and was known for his extensive knowledge of the Bible, archeology, science, history, and sharing jokes and good humor. He loved gardening and growing all sorts of vegetables and flowers, which he did beautifully throughout his life until his final days. He cherished his family and loved spending time with his daughters, grandsons, and extended family members.
Marvin is survived by his daughters Deborah Huth Price (Paul) and Karen Huth Bradshaw (Paul); two grandsons Jeremy Michael Bradshaw (Lindsay) and Kyle Jacob Bradshaw (Ana); his sisters Lorene Buehring and Jeanette Nelson; sister-in-law Virginia Strey and Joy Strey and brother-in-law Melvin Strey; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother Clarence Huth, brothers-in-law Henry Strey, Jr., Harold Buehring, and Jerry Nelson.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, at Zion Lutheran Church, 815 E. 16th Street in Loveland, Colorado. An ice cream reception will follow the service in honor of Marvin’s love for this special treat. Private burial follows on Monday. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wartburg Seminary Endowment Fund, the Trust for Public Land, Zion Lutheran Church in Loveland, or a charity of your choice.
