Louis Baldwin “L.B” Hood, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away on December 23, 2021 in Longmont, CO.   His long battle with Parkinson’s disease showed his courage in facing life challenges and he stayed strong until the end.  L.B. was born in Winchester, KY to the late Lyle and Mattie Hood.

L.B. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frannie Follick Hood, daughters Synthia “Syndy” Hood Deese (Dr. Rebecca Bartee) and Wendy Kling (Troy).  Grandchildren Lauren Hangge (Jon), Haley Deese, Wyatt Kling, Shantell Hayes (Steven) and Jordyn Harvey (Travis).  Great Grandchildren Brantley Gould, Cora Hangge, Hayden and Harper Harvey.  In addition to his immediate family he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends in Longmont and Winchester.

L. B. grew up in Winchester, KY and graduated from Clark County High School in 1963.  He began his career with IBM in 1964 at the Lexington plant and in 1977 moved his family to Longmont, Colorado where he worked in Boulder until his retirement in 2003.

He was an athlete his entire life, playing high school basketball and baseball.  He was known to be quite the pool shark and spent many hours at the Playhouse in Winchester earning a little cash on the side in his early days.  His father-in-law, Bud Follick, introduced him to bowling and L.B. bowled regularly up until the last few months.  Over his lifetime he bowled six, perfect, 300 games.  The friendships he made at Centennial Lanes in Longmont were dear to him and have been long lasting.  He and his bowling buddies participated in many tournaments in Sidney, Reno, and Las Vegas.  His last tournament in Vegas (2018) was a great accomplishment as he was years into his Parkinson’s’ diagnosis at that time.  In addition to bowling, he spent many years playing competitive softball in the Longmont/Boulder area.  One of his favorite tournament spots was in Leadville, Colorado.  At over 10,000 feet in altitude it was easy for him to hit many home runs.

After moving to Colorado L.B. maintained his ties to Kentucky and his fervent support for UK Wildcat Basketball.  He fell in love with Colorado, especially Rocky Mountain National Park.  He and Frannie spent many weekends with their family picnicking and exploring the area.  He had a keen eye for Colorado wildlife and could spot an elk, deer, or Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep at the furthest distance.

Another passion of his was riding his Harley Davidson with the Frederick Circle Hogs.  He enjoyed the miles they drove together on beautiful Colorado sunny days, especially through the mountains.

L.B. Hood was a small town, southern man that loved his family and friends.  A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 30th from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at Centennial Lanes in Longmont, Colorado.  We invite you to join us as we celebrate him and bowl a few games after his service.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Michael J Fox Foundation, or the Davis Phinney Foundation in his memory.  L.B. 's family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hinman and everyone at Life Care Center of Longmont for their support and dedication to his care.
