Kristie (Kris) Trejo, a long-time resident of Firestone, has passed away after a courageous two-year battle with endometrial cancer.
Kris was the first child born to Robert W. Howard and Lola M. Foster in Boone, Iowa on August 22, 1953. She and her family moved to Commerce City, Colorado in 1958. The family then relocated to Firestone, Colorado in 1969, where Kris met her future husband, Michael Trejo.
After graduating from Longmont High School in May of 1971, Kris married Michael Trejo, an Erie High School graduate, on October 30, 1971. The newlyweds moved to their first home together in the Pleasant View/Golden, Colorado area.
In 1973, Kris and Michael moved back to Firestone, Colorado to build their family home. Their home was always filled with their many dogs, nieces, nephews and family. In May of 1982, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Lori and in December of 1988, their second daughter Kari.
Kris devoted her life to her family, and the many close friends she made working in the community in which she lived. Kris retired in 2016 to help care for her mother and her two grandsons, Atticus, and Deegan, who were the loves of her life.
During her battle with cancer, Kris was treated by a wonderful care team led by Dr. Bradley Corr at the University of Colorado Anschutz facility in Aurora. She entrusted her care to him and his dedicated team completely. Kris passed peacefully in her home, with her loving husband, daughters, and little dog by her side on October 5, 2021. She will be missed more than words can say.
She was predeceased by both of her parents and her brother, Mitch Howard. She is survived by her husband Michael Trejo, her daughters Lori (Paul) Trejo and Kari (Christopher) O’Connell, grandsons Atticus & Deegan O’Connell, brothers Randy (Debbie) Howard and Marty (Terri) Howard, her cousin Tim (Cathy) Jeffords that was like a brother to her, and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends in Colorado, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Oregon.
Cremation entrusted to Carroll-Lewellen Funeral & Cremation Services. A private family Celebration of Life was held.
