James (Jim) Ralph Cook, age 89, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Jim was born in his parents’ home in Gower, MO on August 18, 1934, to Glenn Howard Cook and Martha Lyzette (Anderson) Cook. Jim was an only child and enjoyed playing with his dog and riding his pony. His days as a youth included school, chores and taking care of the numerous farm animals.
In the fall of 1952, Jim enrolled at the University of Missouri where he joined Air Force ROTC. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 1956 and with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. In 1957, Jim received his Master’s Degree, and went into active duty and was stationed in multiple locations spanning from Texas to Japan. While in Japan, Jim was notified he received the Fulbright Research Grant in animal physiology which took him to New Zealand from September 1958 to August 1959. Jim served in the Air Force reserves after active duty and was discharged as a Captain in 1968. Jim married his bride of 58 years, Eloise Opal (Baker) Cook on August 11, 1961. They had three children Sondra Jean (Cook) Janssen, Jeffrey Wayne Cook and Charles Ellis Cook.
Jim held various roles throughout his distinguished career including feed lot manager, financial consultant, loan officer and eventually CEO of several banks and oil and gas firms. Outside of work, Jim was an active church leader, Rotary Club member, and coached his sons' soccer teams. He enjoyed outdoor sports including backpacking with his children, tennis, and golf. Jim was an amazing man who loved the Lord and his family. He taught his children and grandchildren the value work by modeling a strong work ethic and serving others. He was a talented problem solver and had a great understanding of many topics.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eloise and is survived by his three children, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family invites friends of
Jim to his memorial service at Broomfield Christian Church, 12601 Sheridan Blvd, Broomfield CO on June 8, 2024 at 10:00 am.
