OCTOBER 22, 1923 – NOVEMBER 16, 2021
Evelyn Canaday joined her Savior Jesus Christ in heaven on Nov. 16, 2021 at the age of 98 years. She believed and often told others that" Jesus is our Savior and the Holy Spirit is with us."
She was born on Oct. 22, 1923 to John Sherman (Sherm) Miller and Ethel Nicklin Miller. She had one brother, Loyd A. Miller. The family lived on a farm near Selma, Iowa. Evelyn enjoyed school and attended Selma Consolidated School and graduated as class Valedictorian in 1941.
After high school she attended the American Institute of Commerce and Business School in Davenport, Iowa. She began her career at Grant Storage and Battery and Bawden Brothers Advertising and Photo Agency in Davenport.
She married Howard Eugene Canaday on Feb. 17, 1945. They met in Selma, Iowa and began dating while both were working in Davenport. Howard had enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942, serving in the South Pacific during WW II for 3 years. Evelyn and Howard celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage together.
They spent their early years of marriage farming in Van Buren and Davis Counties in Iowa. Their two children, Dennis Howard Canaday and Marcia Gale Canaday were born during this time.
In 1963 with a job change and the sale of the Iowa farm, they relocated to Englewood Colorado where Evelyn worked several years at Martin Marietta Company and another 17 years at Information Handling Services in the Denver Tech Center.
Following retirement in 1981 they moved to Loveland, Colorado where they enjoyed family, friends, gardening, travelling, the mountains and attending the Loveland Church of the Nazarene. Evelyn dearly loved her family and is survived by her son Dennis Canaday (Rosalee) of Springfield, Mo., daughter Marcia Byrne (Jim) of Fort Collins, Colorado, grandchildren, Stacy Updegraff (Tom) of Springfield, Mo., Mike Canaday (Diane) of Ozark, Mo., Jamie Byrne Williams (Tony) of Sanford, North Carolina, and great grandsons Jesse Updegraff, Hayden Williams and Kylor Williams.
