September 22nd, 1922 - August 9th, 2021
Elizabeth Bird Bramhall, of Boulder, peacefully passed away on August 9, 2021. Betty was born on September 22, 1922, in Hibbing, Minnesota to the late Henry Edgar Bird and the late Elizabeth Thompson Boucher. She was raised in Schenectady, NY, and graduated from Wellesley College in 1944.
She met her beloved husband, the late George Hardy Bramhall, at a dance for new GE engineers held on the Union College campus.
They were married in Schenectady on September 16, 1945, and settled in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where they built their own home and raised their family. In 1968, they moved to Boulder, and soon Betty became an active member of the Boulder County School District Board. She served the district enthusiastically and devotedly for many years.
Betty was an avid sportswoman. She especially loved cycling, cross-country skiing, and orienteering. She competed in the Senior games in all three sports well into her 80’s and was the National champion in her age group year after year. After giving up cycling and international skiing, she continued orienteering until she was over 95. She also enjoyed her vegetable garden, which she kept up long after after she and George moved from Pine Brook Hills to Frasier Meadows in 2007.
She loved jigsaw puzzles, word, math, and logic games, and travel – Wales and walking tours throughout Europe especially. She loved popcorn, music, dark beer, British wit, and parties.
She is survived by her 3 dearly loved sons, Mark of Acton, MA (Jan), Henry of Suison, CA, (Sylvie) and Thomas of Huntsville, AL, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her siblings, Henry Bird and Margaret Fake.
