October 11th, 1947 - March 30th, 2024
Bonny Dee Swenson passed away peacefully at age 76 on March 30, 2024 in Longmont, Colorado. She ascended into the arms of Jesus on the Eve of Easter, the celebration of His resurrection! Bonny was born to Nicholas and Carol Baki on October 21, 1947 in Mansfield, Ohio. When she was a child, her family moved to Greeley and then Littleton, Colorado where she graduated from Littleton High School. After a year of study at Bethel College, she was hired by Honeywell Aerospace Division in Minneapolis as a secretary and model.
While working there, she met Dave Swenson, an aerospace engineer at Honeywell. They were married on August 15, 1970. The company moved them to Florida and then Massachusetts, where Dave left his engineering career in 1974 to go into the bicycle business with Bonny’s father, Nick Baki, who had started Bike-n-Hike in Longmont, Colorado the previous year. Bonny and Dave had two children, Troy and Kori, who grew up working at the store. Nick retired in 1983 and the Swensons continued operating the store for a total of 32 years.
Bonny was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved well and was a fervent prayer warrior. Throughout Bonny’s marriage to Dave, she had a disorder causing frequent seizures which were never fully controlled. Enduring this trauma with great courage, she was a wonderful caring mother to Troy and Kori, worked at the bicycle store, sang in the Calvary church choir for 40 years, was active in Bible study groups, and rode on multi-day tandem bicycle trips with Dave over major mountain passes in Colorado. They also enjoyed ocean cruises and travel to many destinations around the world. Most important, she loved Jesus, witnessed for him her whole life, and now is at home with him in Glory.
Bonny was preceded in death by her father Nick, mother Carol, and brother Wesley. She is survived by her husband David, sister Jennifer (Gary) Jarvis, brother Wayne (Karen) Baki, two children, Troy (Nikki) Swenson and Kori (Judd) Watts, three granddaughters and many nieces and nephews who will miss her very much. A Celebration of Bonny’s Life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 20 at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay Street in Longmont, CO. Memorial gifts can be sent to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
