Annette Lynne (Sands) Botello went home to be with her Lord on November 17, 2022 in Longmont, Colorado, at the age of 66 years old, after a short fight with breast cancer.

Annette was born on May 22, 1956 in Wheeling, Ohio county, West Virginia to Carl Lee Sands and Dr. Mary Alice (Ryan) Sands. Annette is survived by her husband, Ysabel “Ys” Botello, four daughters, Carrie (Stephen) Brown, Christiana (Joshua) Hansen, Laurie (Shane) Harrison, Danielle Botello, and a step-daughter, Jennifer (Aaron) Lund. She is also survived by her brother, Samuel Carl (Cathy) Sands, grandchildren, Zane Botello, Christopher Hansen, Steven Hansen, Chloe Hansen, and step-grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Lund, Tyler Lund, Nathan Lund and Kaurina Lund. In addition, she is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their spouses and families. Annette was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents, George Wade Sands, and Mamie Lee (Dennison) Sands, Daniel Smith Ryan and Mabel May (Hunt) Ryan.

After living in Cameron, West Virginia, the family moved to Rushville, Ohio and then to Somerset, Ohio. At about age 12, they moved to Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Then at about age 14 they moved to Johnstown, Colorado where Annette graduated as co-valedictorian from Roosevelt High School in 1974.

After a year attending the University of Northern Colorado and 2 years at the University of Colorado in Boulder, she graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of West Virginia in Morgantown in 1979.

In 1980 she was employed as an Electrical Engineer by Burr-Brown in Tucson, Arizona and Ys transferred with IBM from Boulder to Tucson. On December 6, 1980, Annette and Ys were married at the Boulder Church of Christ. In 1987 after their first daughter, Carrie was born in Tucson, they moved back to Colorado living in Longmont, Berthoud, Heatherwood, Gunbarrel Estates and Longmont where Christi, Laurie and Dani were born.

Annette was a woman of many interests and a passionate life-long learner. Annette had a great appreciation for jazz music and spent many years singing with the Rocky Mountain Christian Church choir. One of Annette’s greatest joys in life was doing family history research and she was a skilled genealogist. She was a member of the Boulder Genealogy Society, the Colorado Society of Hispanic Genealogy (Denver) and often taught at the Mexico Genealogy Research Group (Littleton). She took many fun trips to Salt Lake City, Utah to research her ancestors. Annette loved to read and was often nose-deep in a wide range of books at one time. She greatly enjoyed working at the Longmont Public Library where she had many friends and came across countless books to add to her reading list.

Annette loved Jesus and her family dearly. She had a huge heart and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a steadfast source of love, comfort and compassion.

Nothing put a smile on her face more than the simple act of spending time with her family. She especially took joy in being with her grandchildren. Going on vacation with the entire family to Sedona, AZ, over the many years was one of her most cherished memories. Her faith and personal relationship with Jesus was the foundation of her life. She exemplified the love of God to those around her and was a true prayer warrior. She taught classes on contemplative prayer and loved spending quiet time listening to God. She and Ys were involved in “Concerts of Prayer” in the 90’s. Annette was part of the Healing Prayer ministry.

Annette was an amazing woman loved by many and will be missed by those whose lives she touched.

A celebration of life will be held at Flatirons Community Church Longmont Campus at 1850 Industrial Circle, Longmont CO on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
