Climate Action Sunday: Ways We Travel

On Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 pm, the Sustainability Office and Museum invite you to the FREE “The Ways We Travel” Climate Action event. Transportation is now the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. We’ll screen the new, feature film The Engine Inside with a community panel discussion afterward. The event also includes learning activities for kids and an information fair with community partners and local resources. Join us to explore how people are thinking outside the car to make big impacts from climate change to socio-economic inequality to more livable cities. History and Tradition of Botanical Art

Trace botanical art from its earliest use on tombs in 500 BC to the modern day during this free presentation at the Longmont Public Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14! Through the examples in this presentation, you will have an idea of the beauty and breadth of botanical art as a continuing tradition. This presentation is developed by the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA), an organization of individuals and institutions who share and interest and appreciation of the tradition and contemporary practice of botanical art. This event is free, however registration is required at the Library Programs webpage or by calling 303-651-8472.

Sustainability Explained: Watch Your Waste

Haste makes waste! Attend a free interactive presentation from the City of Longmont’s Sustainability Office and learn how you can waste less, save more, and make your community a better place to live from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave. This event is free but registration is requested. Free Community Night – Jeff & Paige

Bring a picnic, chairs and blankets and enjoy the scenery from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. At 6:30 p.m., Jeff & Paige will entertain kids of all ages with their songs, storytelling and interactive play. This is a free outdoor family event; please consider carpooling due to limited parking. Recreation Center maintenance closure

Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance on systems and equipment. The Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road, will be closed from Aug. 27-Sept. 3, and will reopen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4. The Leisure Pool will also be closed on Aug. 26. Visit our other facilities during the closure. For more information, call 303-774-4700 or visit the Rec webpage.

Fall in the Foothills presentation

Come celebrate autumn via an indoor slideshow and activity program presented by Boulder County Parks & Open Space at the Longmont Library from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9! Find out where you can picnic near a trailhead, hike along one of the paths that showcase fall’s scenery or take a ramble to study the birds and flora of our area. All ages welcome! This program is free, but requires registration at the Library Programs webpage or by calling 303-651-8472.

Sign up for CERT Basic Training course

Are you interested in learning in-depth skills you can use in the event of a disaster? Sign up for our free CERT Basic Training course, presented by Longmont Public Safety Emergency Response Management team. Class will take place in-person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on three Saturdays on Sept. 9, 16, and 23. There are 30 seats available for this class. All students must be 18 years of age or older, and preference will be given to individuals who live and work in Longmont. Registration ends at noon on Sept. 7, or when the class reaches capacity. You must attend all sessions in order to complete the certification. Register online at the Longmont Website and search “CERT.” Call 303-651-8438 with questions.

Senior Services wants to hear from YOU!

Senior Services strives to meet the needs of our growing and changing community. Residents ages 55-and-older are encouraged to take our brief eight-question survey to share your experiences and thoughts about the Senior Center. Take the survey online at longmontcolorado.gov/seniorservices or swing by the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave., to fill out a paper survey. Your responses will help us shape programs and services in the future!

Free swim lesson sessions

Recreation Services is sponsoring 200 free swim lesson sessions for resident youth who do not know how to swim. The goal of this program is to provide more opportunities for youth to learn how to be safe and have fun in and around the water. To qualify, applicants must be a child aged 3-12 years old; in need of beginner swim lessons; live within the city limits of Longmont; demonstrate a financial need; and have not taken swim lessons with the City of Longmont in the past. Removing and reporting graffiti

Removing graffiti as soon as possible is important because graffiti adds to the deterioration of neighborhoods if left in place. When an individual or neighborhood becomes involved in active and frequent removal of graffiti, it sends a message to offenders that their destructive graffiti and other activities will not be tolerated. Please submit a report online through ServiceWorks (longmontcolorado.gov/serviceworks) or call the graffiti hotline at 303-774-4327. Calls will be responded to Monday through Friday within 48 hours. If you see graffiti in progress, call 9-1-1. Useful information you can provide includes a description of those involved and their vehicle description (if there is one). Do not approach those involved in what you believe is an illegal activity. More information on graffiti removal can be found on the Longmont website and searching “graffiti.”
