Longmont Library introduces free computer, technology classes

The Longmont Library is excited to announce the start of Technology, Development and Innovation classes beginning July 25. These classes are designed in an easy-to-learn style that is beginner- and intermediate-friendly.

Classes will be held on a rotating basis every second and fourth Tuesday in the Computer Lab, located upstairs in the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Ave. During the classes, participants will gain hands-on experience with opportunities to practice their skills. Classes will be led by the Library’s Technology Services staff, giving attendees a friendly and welcoming environment to learn, ask questions and feel confident using computers, software, and the internet.

Upcoming free classes include:

Introduction to PC Computing

  • 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25
  • During this class, participates will learn the anatomy of a computer; Windows Operating System; mastering the desktop; common software applications; computer mouse skills; keyboard shortcuts; basics of computer folders and files; internet basics; and PC tech terms.

Internet Basics: Surfing the Web Safely and Securely

  • 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8
  • In this session, we will cover the fundamentals of internet security, how to establish secure passwords and password storage advice. We will also examine anti-spam and anti-phishing security measures and how to avoid viruses, spyware, and emails that are dangerous. Lastly, we look at secure payment solutions for buying and conducting business online.

Writing Effective Resumes and Cover Letters in Word

  • 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22
  • We will be exploring the different tools that Word has to offer while learning to build a resume and cover letter. During this class, you will learn the best practices for resume and cover letter writing, enabling you to effectively highlight your experience, education, and accomplishments. We will guide you through the step-by-step process of crafting compelling content, structuring your documents, and selecting appropriate formats.
