A Castle Rock, Colorado Kiwanian began her term October 1 as 2021-22 Governor of the Kiwanis Rocky Mountain District (RMD), which oversees more than 80 Kiwanis clubs in Colorado, Wyoming, and parts of western Nebraska and northern New Mexico.

Castle Rock Kiwanis Member Robin Scurto began her term as Governor after a decade of service in numerous capacities as a club officer, RMD Lieutenant Governor, and committee chair for scholarships, Stars of Tomorrow, and sponsored youth. She also is a charter member of the Castle Rock Impact After Hours and RMD eClub. She was named 2014 and 2019 Castle Rock Kiwanian of the Year and a two time RMD Distinguished Lieutenant Governor.

Scurto became a Kiwanian after being asked to judge auditions for the Kiwanis Stars of Tomorrow competition. As a former music teacher, she was impressed that this service organization was providing talented students an opportunity to showcase their expertise.

“I subsequently learned of the great things Kiwanians were doing for children and our community and of the passion the Kiwanis members had for service and each other,” Scurto said. “I have remained a committed Kiwanian over the years because we make a difference and our communities need us.”

Scurto said serving as Governor is an opportunity for her to engage and to make even more of a difference.

“Kiwanis clubs make a significant impact on children and their communities and seek to partner with others to do the same,” she said. “We make a difference through our powerful leadership programs for students and a wide range of services for other individuals in our communities who are in need.”

“As Governor, I'm doing my part to ensure that we engage with each other, develop and steward those relationships, while encouraging fun and meeting the changing needs in our communities,” she said.

Scurto earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Michigan State University and has served as director of individual giving for the Lone Tree Arts Center since 2014.

Ute Pass Kiwanian Dawn Ignatius, Woodland Park, will serve one year as Governor-Elect before becoming the Rocky Mountain District Governor in the fall of 2022. Another Ute Pass Kiwanian, Bert West, Divide, is currently President-Elect of Kiwanis International, based in Indianapolis, Ind., and will take the helm of this international service club in 2022-23.
