Grass fire near Longmont

Investigation determined the fire started in a transient camp, portable heater caught fire and burned the camping equipment

Boulder County, Colo. -  On October 22, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Longmont Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of 395 E. Rogers Road in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado, which is just outside the city limits of Longmont, on the report of a grass fire.

Upon arrival, fire fighters found a grassy area approximately 20 feet x 20 feet on fire and quickly went to work putting out the flames. The fire was extinguished without injury to anyone or damage to any structures.

The immediate investigation determined the fire started in a transient camp, in which a portable heater caught fire and burned all the camping equipment in the 20 foot x 20 foot clearing. The occupant(s) of the camp had left the scene prior to first responders and remain unidentified.

The responding agencies to this fire include the Longmont Police Department, Longmont Fire Department and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.  

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number for this incident is #21-5095.
