NEWS RELEASE
LONGMONT MUSEUM
*************************

Welcome back to Discovery Days! Our fall semester started this past week, and we have some exciting new changes to tell you about - please read on to find out about our newest Museum Instructor, Henry!

Our theme next week (Sept. 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16) is Under the Sea!

Here is a preview of a couple of the things that we we can make in Discovery Days Art next week:

Discovery Days Art with Ms. Leigh and Henry

Discovery Days Art with Ms. Leigh and Henry

  • Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays; Classroom AB
  • Sept. 6 - Dec. 16
  • 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m.
  • 1 hour and 15 minutes per session

This class is self-directed exploration in an art classroom space.

Ms. Leigh and new Museum Instructor Henry will both provide guidance to children and families, assist with one-on-one skill acquisition, and play with the children to help them learn and grow. This class allows for late arrival, but there is an attendance maximum for each session.

Henry joins Ms. Leigh to teach on Fridays, and he teaches on Saturdays as well!

An introduction from Henry:

My name is Henry (I also go by Hank) and I am the new Teen Craft & Create and Discovery Days instructor! I grew up here in Colorado and have lived in Longmont for the past five years.

I studied anthropology and classics at CU Boulder before completing a masters program in Early Childhood Education through CU Denver!

I’ve worked with the Longmont Museum in the past as a volunteer and am thrilled to be a part of the team!

Discovery Days Music & Movement

Discovery Days Music & Movement with Ms. Kendra from Integral Steps

  • Tuesdays; Classroom C
  • Sept. 5 - Dec. 12
  • 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m.
  • 45 minute to 1 hour per session

Children and their parents and caregivers can enjoy moving to music together!

Ms. Kendra from Integral Steps will play music, play instruments like the oboe, lead dancing and wiggling, and lead sing-a-longs!

This class is contains primarily direct instruction, so you will have the best experience if you arrive for the beginning of the class start time, so that you and your child can participate along with the instructor's direction. Classes start at 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., and will run about 45 minutes long.

Announcements!

New Session Start Times! 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m. & 1 p.m.

We are now starting each first session at 9:15 a.m. instead of 9 a.m.! This should make it a bit easier for families to get checked in at the front desk on those busy days. This change means we also shifted the next session time to start at 10:45 a.m.

New Art Sessions on Saturdays!

So many families aren't able to attend Art sessions during the week, but now they can attend a class on Saturdays! We even have a new instructor for who will be helping during the week and on Saturdays.

New Fee Structure!

Discovery Days serves both children and their caregivers, and keeping that in mind, we have adjusted our fee structure. Each person, ages 2 and up, will now pay a smaller fee to participate in Discovery Days.

  • $2.25 per person for members
  • $2.50 per person for nonmembers

For some folks, this won't drastically change the amount you had been paying to participate, but if this change presents a challenge to you, please consider applying for our Discovery Days Scholarships!
